The future “coach’s coach” started his football career in “Bratstvo” in Travnik in 1954. That same year he left to join Dinamo, which he left to play briefly for Lokomotiva in 1955. After Lokomotiva, he returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina where he played for Sarajevo from 1956 until 1958. He later returned to Croatia to play in Rijeka’s first lineup from 1958 until 1961. From there he went on to Sion in Switzerland in the season 1961/62. Having suffered an injury, he had to end his career prematurely. As Ciro himself likes to say, he was a mediocre footballer, so he dedicated his time to coaching in Switzerland instead.
